中国独立纪录片从概念上有着鲜明的历史特征，自九十年代始，大量作品记录了经济、体制巨大变化背景下国人生存现状和精神面貌，具有极为重要的史料价值和人类学价值。在21世纪初，社会物质条件的快速丰富，一定程度推动着民间“独立”创作者开始发挥媒体人特征，各种“独立作品”衍生出来，新时代背景下，独立纪录片或从历史的沉重叙事语境中挣脱出来，趋于生活更多元的表达，这种即将构成的鲜明风格在公民社会中，无疑也是一种进步。
